LITTLE FENCERS PROGRAMS

One of the major goals of the Denver Fencing Foundation is to create sports equality across the city. The Aspen Institute has found that,Children from homes in the lowest income bracket are far more likely to be physically inactive than kids from wealthier households.” Our Little Fencers Program focuses on building healthy habits early by providing opportunities for our youngest participants, including students in grades K through 5. Through afterschool enrichment programs and Little Fencers tournaments, we create a fun and supportive environment where kids can learn, grow, and stay active.

Afterschool Enrichment Program

The Denver Fencing Foundation has worked in as many as 17 schools across the city, providing after-school enrichment programs that introduce students to fencing in a fun and safe environment. Many of the schools we serve have a high percentage of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. We support grant-funded schools, which allows us to offer programming at no cost to students and families who may not otherwise have access to organized sports. Our goal is to meet students where they are and create opportunities for them to stay active, build confidence, and be a part of something positive when the school day ends.

Little Fencers Class

Our Little Fencers classes at the Denver Fencing Center offer students an opportunity to continue their fencing journey outside of school. While these classes are not Foundation classes, they are available at no cost to students at our grant schools. This allows participants to stay engaged in fencing during the weekends and summer vacation, helping them continue building skills and staying active year-round. By extending access beyond afterschool programs, we create a clear pathway for students to keep learning, growing, and staying connected to the sport.

Little Fencers Tournaments

Our Little Fencers Tournaments give students the opportunity to try competition in a fun and supportive environment. These beginner-friendly events help young fencers build confidence, practice their skills, and experience the excitement of fencing without pressure. Our school coaches are there to guide and encourage students throughout the event, while also giving parents a chance to see what their child has learned and connect with other families. For students from our grant-funded schools, participation is free. Gear is provided for all participants, which ensures every child has the opportunity to participate.
